Aims

Following the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, the UAB Refuge Program aligns with SDG 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”, specifically:

4.3. Ensure equal access for all men and women to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education, including university education.

4.5. Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations.

Within this framework, the UAB Refuge Program, coordinated by the FAS, carries out its activities with the following specific objectives:

A. Facilitate access to higher education as a fundamental right for individuals who have experienced forced displacement and/or are seeking International Protection and refuge through various scholarship and study aid programs.

B. Encourage civic and university participation of individuals within the UAB Refuge Program through:

a. Promoting participation in activities related to the participants' fields of expertise, recognizing their professional trajectories.

b. Establishing agreed-upon and personalized accompaniment pathways.

c. Creating support networks through peer mentoring.

C. Promote awareness of the structural causes, consequences, and actors involved in forced displacement and provide tools for action through:

a. Organizing outreach and awareness-raising activities on the UAB campus.

b. Developing collaborations with faculties, educators, and researchers to influence curricular content.

c. Networking with key actors defending the rights of migrants and refugees, and creating spaces for knowledge exchange.

D. Advocate institutionally to strengthen the university's role as a responsible actor in ensuring and upholding Human Rights.
