From October 23 to 29, the International Open Access Week is celebrated around the world, an annual initiative to promote open access (OA) in the academic and research world. This year the motto is Community over commercialization is an opportunity to join together, take action, and raise awareness around the importance of community control of knowledge sharing systems.
Below we detail the different talks that will be held to promote open access and we invite you to attend!
Day: Monday, 23 October
Time: 10 a.m.to 11:30 a.m.
Description: Rights retention appears lately in funding requirements and policies as one of the tools to achieve an immediate access to knowledge. This is why it is necessary that both, the research staff and their institutions, retain the key rights to be able to freely reuse the research output. In this talk there will be presented the results of the Project Retain, which has analysed different institutional policies to preserve the intellectual property rights of the research output, and it will be discussed the key elements to take into account to apply a rights retention policy.
Speaker: Ignasi Labastida. PhD in Physics from the University of Barcelona (UB). Head of the Research Unit at the UB’s CRAI. He is currently Rector's Delegate for Open Science, Chair of the LERU Information & Open Access policy group, Member of LERU Open Science Ambassadors Grup and Chair of the Board for SPARC Europe.

In this talk you will learn about CORA.RDR, a multidisciplinary data repository that allows researchers from the Catalan research system to publish research data in FAIR mode and complying with the requirements of funding agencies. Using the UAB space within CORA.RDR you will be able to determine the access rights to your datasets, which will be stored and preserved, increasing their discoverability by making them findable on different portals thanks to the use of a DOI. In addition, you will be able to see other characteristics of this repository, as well as the benefits that publishing the datasets can bring.
Part two : The Data Management Plan: how to complete the FAIR section. One of the sections of the Data Management Plan are the FAIR requirements that the repository chosen to deposit your research data must meet. We explain each of the required elements and what type of information must be included.
