The Government of Catalonia, the Barcelona City Council and four universities (UAB, UB, UPC and UPF) have created an inter-university chair to take on the problems associated with housing. The chair aims to collaborate with the promotion of innovative and evidence-based public housing policies through educational, research, assessment and dissemination programmes.

Eulàlia de Nadal, Josep Ferrer, Juli Ponce, Josep M. Montaner, Montserrat Pareja i Judith Gifreu

This initiative was born with the aim of providing a comprehensive approach to the subject from the different disciplines conducting research and actions in housing. It thus aims to form a transdisciplinary group of people interested in sharing knowledge and experience that can go towards the design of housing policies and tools. Specifically, through this new chair, there will be the creation of the first master's degree in housing, as well as several graduate programmes, courses and workshops, and participation in local and international research projects. Moreover, this new university body will provide assessment to public administrations and organise academic conferences.

The chair was officially presented at the UPF Ciutadella campus on 28 February and will have offices at all four universities, with the main office being located at the UPC's Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB). It will be co-directed by Judith Gifreu, lecturer in administrative law at the UAB; Josep Ferrer, professor in civil law at the UPF; Josep Maria Montaner, professor in theory of architecture at the UPC; and Montserrat Pareja-Eastaway and Juli Ponce, lecturer of the Department of Economics and professor in administrative law at the UB. The group will also work jointly with academics from other parts of Spain and abroad.
