On 10 December there will be a talk on “The science of meditation” in the Events Room in l’Àgora at 12.30pm. The talk is being organized by the student Namaste society at the UAB, which for three years has been promoting the benefits of yoga for the body and for life in general, encouraging the practise of this sport in the university.

Sergi Alonso, meditation teacher, will be in charge of the talk on “The science of meditation” and Emmanuel Serrano, a UAB researcher who also practises meditation regularly, will also take part in the event. The talk will take the form of a workshop and the attendants will be expected to participate actively. The speakers will seek to clarify what science has to say about meditation, what benefits medicine attributes to this discipline and what latest research studies there have been on the subject recently. Sergi Alonso will also conduct a meditation session for those interested in the practice and not only the theory of meditation.

The purpose of the talk, besides promoting the benefits of yoga and meditation, is to create a new and permanent group at the UAB to practise meditation. Whether the new group is formed or not, Namaste will still meet each Friday at 2.15pm to offer meditation classes that are open to everyone.
