The diversity and quality of the presentations stand out in the third edition of the UAB's pitch competition. Winners included Marina Sánchez Calleja, student of the bachelor's degree in Medicine (first prize); Júlia de Mas Soler, also a student of Medicine (second prize), and Pau Sabrià Liaño, student of the bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine (third prize). Ten finalists with ideas and projects in very different fields: health, circular economy, music, catering, etc.

The UAB successfully held a new edition of Emprèn Pitch, its pitching competition open to all students. A pitch is a concise oral presentation of an entrepreneurial idea or projectf, and is a technique frequently used in the business world in which communicative skills play a decisive role.

On Tuesday 12 December, the 10 finalists of the Emprèn Pitch competition only had 90 seconds to present their idea or project in front of a professional jury and other competitors. The ten ideas presented stood out for the diversity of their nature and areas in which they can be applied. The jury, whose members highlighted the "excellent level" of the presentations, chose the three best winning pitches, who received a surprise weekend travel gift courtesy of Waynabox.

These are the three winners and their projects:

  • 1st prize: Marina Sánchez Calleja, from the bachelor’s degree in Medicine, for her project UBRA.
  • 2nd prize: Júlia de Mas Soler, from the bachelor’s degree in Medicine, for her project Burtoola.
  • 3rd prize: Pau Sabrià Liaño, from the bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, with his project Muuplàstik!

Apart from the three winning prizes, all students participating in the Emprèn Pitch competition will have the possibility of receiving assessment from the UAB-Emprèn programme to continue to develop their entrepreneurial ideas and projects.

The jury, made up of pluridisciplinary professionals, experts in entrepreneurship, included Carlos Guallarte, director of the University-Business Programme (PUE); Jordi Agustí, CEO of Waynabox; Marc Espín, lecturer of the Faculty of Communication Studies and entrepreneur, and Sílvia Piqueras, director of the UAB Employment Services. All four evaluated the quality of the oral presentation, originality and degree of innovation, its potential social impact and its viability.
