The AFIN research group has created a podcast entitled Conversaciones afines with the aim of bringing the general public closer to the debates and research conducted in their area of study—health, reproduction, sexuality and families—from the social anthropology perspective. The podcast is available on Spotify and Ivoox.

Conversaciones afines

The podcast begins with a series of eight chapters dedicated to exploring from different points of view how society sees the rise in donor egg IVF treatments in Spain and the role these reproductive cells have. Each chapter consists of a conversation with an expert anthropologist or sociologist and is conducted by Anna Molas, Juan de la Cierva researcher at AFIN.

The chapters of this series are updated on a fortnightly basis. After the first two episodes on egg recipients and reproductive journeys from France to Spain, which featured the participation of AFIN researchers Bruna Álvarez and Alexandra Desy, the next episode, which will be available from 2 October, will deal with egg donors in Spain and will feature Anna Molas herself as an expert.

The remaining chapters will focus on the topics of genetic selection (which will feature Laura Perler, researcher at the University of Bern, and will be available from 16 October), the transfer of eggs from Spain to Brazil (Consuelo Álvarez, Complutense University of Madrid, 30 October), the "social" freezing of eggs (Sara Lafuente-Funes, Goethe University, 13 November), gay parents through surrogacy and egg donation (Marcin Smietana, Queen Mary University of London and Cambridge University, 27 November) and the comparison of rights in adoption and assisted reproduction cases (Diana Marre, Director of AFIN, 11 December).

This podcast is part of the training, research and transfer activities of the AFIN group and has been made possible thanks to a project funded by the Women's Institute, an organisation attached to the Ministry for Equality, aimed at the creation of products for the transfer of research results.
