Discovery of the first opera composed by a woman in Spain
The manuscript score of Schiava e Regina, which Maria Lluïsa Casagemas composed when she was 17 years old, was located by experts in Musicology of the UAB. It was the first of her works programmed for a large opera theatre in Europe. The attack on the Liceu in 1893 thwarted its premiere.

International experts to create a world map of reproductive policies
Creating a map of changes in reproductive and social policies existing around the world, from Israel and United States to India and Spain, is the objective of the X AFIN International Conference: Reproductive Politics, Rights and Desires, organised by the UAB and the UB, and which will be held on 2 to 4 November.

All Catalan universities give support to the initiative of creating an independent committee for mediation, dialogue and reconciliation launched by the Barcelona Bar Association and other civil society entities.

The UAB comes together to demand dialogue and to protest against recent imprisonments
Today, 17 October, the UAB held a demonstration in front of its different teaching centres in protest of the imprisonment of Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart. Rector Arboix affirmed that the UAB "will always be in favour of dialogue and the reinforcement of democracy".

Open Access Week at the UAB
From 23 to 29 October the International Open Access Week is celebrated, a yearly initiative in which open access is promoted in the academic and research sectors. The UAB Library Service has prepared different activities in celebration of this week.
Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week
The UAB's Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week will take place from 23 to 27 October, with mobility-related activities every day for the entire community. Some of the activities will serve to compensate hours for members of the administration and services sector.

Catalonia's oldest prehistoric engravings discovered
Researchers from the Centre for the Study of Prehistoric Archaeological Heritage (CEPAP-UAB) recently discovered several engravings from the Late Stone Age on the walls of the Cova Gran de Santa Linya, in the Noguera county of Lleida. These are the oldest artistic representations to have been discovered to date in Catalonia.
