Researchers from different universities and research centres in Catalonia, including the UAB, have created the Catalan Association of Science and Technology Studies (STS-CAT). The official presentation will take place on 28 February at 9:30 a.m. at the Barcelona Research Residence. The inaugural lecture will be given by Wiebe E. Bijker, one of the leading thinkers in this field.
Luis Panizo Blanco, member of the administration and services staff who was currently working at the European Documentation Centre, passed away on 20 February 2025. The UAB wishes to extend its deepest condolences to the people who knew and loved him, and expresses its sadness for having lost a member of its community.
MiraMon, the geographic information system developed by the UAB and CREAF, celebrated its 30th anniversary in an event that will be followed by other activities during 2025. With more than 200,000 users in 42 different countries, this software is a key tool in Catalonia for monitoring changes on land. Thanks to MiraMon, a large number of PhD theses and key research works in the fields of geography, biology and climate have been carried out.
The evaluation surveys for the first semester of the 2024/25 academic year corresponding to the teaching performance of faculty members and subjects/modules will be available until 17 January 2025.
The vaccination campaign organised by the UAB Healthcare Service will offer the Tetanus Diphtheria Vaccine to university community member aged over 40.
The 2023 edition of the La Marató fundraiser was dedicated to research into sexual land reproductive health. Research projects that have received funding from the 2023 fundraiser include Diana Marre from the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology; Elisa Llurba from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; and Òscar Vilarroya from the Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine. A total of 26 projects from over 100 applications have received funding.
Javier Lafuente was elected rector of the UAB on 7 November. He took office on 21 November in an event that includes speeches by Núria Montserrat, Minister for Research and Universities; Tania Nadal, President of the Social Council and Esther Zapater, secretary General of the UAB.
Fatma Sinem Eryilmaz, lecturer in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History, in collaboration with Alexander Fidora, ICREA researcher at the Department of Antiquity and Middle Age Studies, has secured funds to study Occult Sciences in the Islamicate Cultures in one of the three Synergy Grant projects awarded by the ERC this year.
