Retired Professor Elisabet Garcia from the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising passed away on 2 May 2024. The UAB wishes to extend its most sincere condolences to all those who loved and appreciated and express its grief in having lost a member of its community.
The final competition of "Thesis in 4 Minutes", in which PhD students are encouraged to present their doctoral thesis in a maximum of four minutes, will take place on 7 May at 12 noon, at the UAB Doctoral School. The event will be streamed live on the UAB's YouTube channel.
The UAB is sad to announce the passing of Professor Francisco Rico, who taught Medieval Spanish Literature at the UAB and was an academic member of the Royal Spanish Academy. The UAB hosted the 1st Conference on Addictions, Well-being and Mental Health on Youth and Adolescents on Friday 12 April from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. Organised by the Stress and Health Research Group (GIES) of the UAB, it discussed crucial issues such as cannabis abuse, binge drinking in adolescents, and problematic use of the internet among young people.
The study of the feeding pattern of sheep in the Cueva de El Toro, Malaga, some 7,200 years ago demonstrates that livestock management practices of the Western Mediterranean during the Old Neolithic were far more varied than believed until now. This reinforces the hypothesis that Neolithic groups in the south of the peninsula were characterised by their complexity and ability to cover large distances throughout the territory. The research has been led by researchers of the UAB Prehistory Department and published in PLOS ONE.
