The documentary I hate New York (2018) by Gustavo Sánchez will be screened on 14 May in Sala Cinema de la UAB on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphohbia and Biphobia. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Gustavo Sánchez the movie’s director; Gerard López, film editor and former UAB student; and Alma Pereira, representative for the LGTBI+ society “Sin Vergüenza UAB”.
The competition will begin on 16 May at 10 a.m. at the Sala de graus of the Doctoral and Graduate School. The event will consist in ten PhD students who will have a maximum of four minutes to defend their thesis. At the end of the competition the jury will select the two best thesis and all those attending will be able to vote for the thesis they liked best.
The UAB leads this year's edition of the El Mundo ranking - in charge of analysing the 50 most popular university degrees in Spain - and is the university to have the most number of degrees in the first 5 positions, with a total of 24. The top UAB degrees include Veterinary Medicine, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Environmental Science and Political Science and Public Management.
The UAB Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, through the CORE in Cultural Heritage, will participate in the project entitled "Cultural Sustainability in the Vall d'en Bas". The project will serve as a pilot programme in Catalonia to integrate different heritage areas into the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
The Faculty of Communication Sciences will host a masterclass on La Marató de TV3 on Tuesday, May 21, at 11:00 in order to showcase the keys to the success of this television show, It has become a benchmark. Gemma Nierga -Alumni UAB- and Ramon Gener, presenters of the program in the 2018 edition, will conduct the event.
Starting last academic year, the Fundación Mujeres por África and the UAB offer one grant per year to a woman from Africa to study at the UAB and live at the Vila. This year, Martha Ogochukwu from Nigeria was awarded the grant to enrol in the master's degree in Political Science. "It has been a very positive experience", she says.
The UAB will be celebrating spring with Primavera a la UAB on 29 April in Plaça Cívica. This celebration will also offer a solidary lunch against food waste.
From 8 to 12, the last activities of the Health and Sustainability Week addressed to the university community will be taking place. On Tuesday 9 April, there will be a walk at the Sabadell campus and another walk on 11 April at the Northern Axis of the Bellaterra campus, with food-trucks from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
