The Department of English and German Studies organised the 5th International Conference of the Association of Young Researchers on Anglophone Studies (ASYRAS), which took place at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities from 25 to 27 January. The title of the conference is "Against all Odds: Persistence and Resistance in Young Researchers' Work" and brought together master's degree and PhD students in English linguistics, literature and culture.

In the past few years, young researchers have had to face a highly complex social and academic scene. However, against all odds, they manage to generate high quality research. The conference will provide a space in which young graduates and researchers in English Studies can present their works on linguistics, literature and culture.

The conference will include four plenary sessions, parallel sessions on linguistics and literature, project presentations, a workshop on statistics  offered by the UAB Applied Statistics Service and information sessions on pre- and post-doctoral grants, programmes, study periods abroad and PhD theses.

The organisation of the conference was conducted with the support of ASYRAS, which organises biannual conferences. This edition's organisation committee was formed by people from the areas of English and North American literature and English linguistics.
