For the second time, the UAB will be showcasing its entrepreneurial and innovative capacity with its own stand (1C43B) at the 4 Years From Now fair on 28 and 29 February. The stand will give visibility to seven companies created by UAB researchers from the life sciences, energy and the environment, and engineering sectors:

  • Allread is a company founded by researchers from the UAB and the Computer Vision Centre which has developed a pioneering system for the detection and intelligent reading of codes and texts through artificial vision algorithms for ports and terminals.
  • AWEC, founded by research staff of the Department of Animal and Food Science, offers scientific-technical advisory services and an innovation and research service for the improvement of animal welfare.
  • Bioeclosion is a tech-based company created by researchers from the Department of Chemistry and the UAB Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine which produces new diagnostic devices based on next-generation biosensors.
  • Distinkt, created by researchers from the UAB, ICN2 and CSIC, develops high-security fluorescent inks based on nanotechnology to combat counterfeiting in banknotes and luxury goods.
  • Nanoligent, a tech-based company created by the UAB and the Research Institute of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, is dedicated to the design of nanoparticles conjugated with an antitumor drug to treat metastasis.
  • Tectum Garden stems from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) and offers design, installation and maintenance services for urban gardens and other urban agriculture systems.
  • Vetgenomics is the first tech-based company created at the UAB and is dedicated to the diagnosis of pathogens and the development, optimisation, validation and transfer of technology in the field of genomics.

In addition to these companies, new innovative tecnologies developed by researchers and students at the UAB School of Engineering will also be present at the stand.

Twenty years of innovative companies

The UAB is an entrepreneurial university, committed to fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and skills of both its students and researchers. For this reason, Emprèn UAB offeris specialised assessment to all members of the university community interested in developing an entrepreneurial idea or project.

It is worth highlighting that the UAB has contributed to launching 31 spin-offs since 2009 with the aim of making use of its research findings, and another 30 were created before the “Regulations for the creation of technology-based companies” was passed.

In total, these 61 companies generate more than 1,000 highly qualified workplaces, with more than half of them belonging to the ICT and biotech sector. A total of 80% of these companies have managed to develop a business model that is sustainable in time and 60% of them have achieved international presence and operate in different markets.
