The UAB Orchestra, under the direction of Jesús Badia, will be holding its traditional Spring Concert on 3 June at 1:30 p.m. at the UAB Theatre Hall.

Imatge de l'orquestra de la UAB

This year's concert will begin with a performance of Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony nr. 104 "London" / "Salomon", and the orchestra will also offer Zoltán Kodály's "Minuetto Serio" and Edward Elgar's charming "Chanson de nuit" and "Chanson de matin".

Symphony nr. 104, the "London Symphony" or "Salomon Symphony", as it is called, is the last symphony's composed by Franz Joseph Haydn. With a disturbing introduction, it is followed by a lively and joyful first movement and continues with a second movement that offers a precious and moving discourse, to end with a majestic and delicate courtly dance.

The "Minuetto Serio", for its part, is a piece by Zoltán Kodály composed in 1948 that evokes echoes of the classical music of Haydn and Prokòfiev, and that ended up being part of the opera Czinka Panna of 1953.

Finally, the concert will end with two pieces by Edward Elgar: the "Chanson de nuit" and "Chanson de matin". The first is a quiet and reflective piece, while the second is lighter and more cheerful, but both are considered small musical pieces that rounds off the concert programme.
