ECIU University launch
On 7 and 8 November, the UAB facilities at its Bellaterra campus and the UAB Casa Convalescència in Barcelona will be hosting the summit serving as the kick-off of the ECIU University project, a European project made up of a total of eleven European universities aimed at offering a new concept of international university reaching across borders and based on the involvement of businesses and institutions. The project is one of the 17 international initiatives selected after the European Commission announced a call for European Universities as part of the EU Erasmus+ programme and will receive 5 million Euros in funding.

The goal of the ECIU University is to foster social impact using a challenge-based model in which students and lecturers will collaborate closely, and institutions and businesses will also work together in both academic and research tasks: formulating innovative flexible interdisciplinary and tailor-made education methods, and creating innovation hubs in which researchers and professionals from different sectors can work side by side.

The summit began on 7 November with speeches by the Rector of the UAB Margarita Arboix and President of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) Victor van der Chijs. Delegates of all eleven universities forming part of the projects and other participating entities are also attending.
