The UAB announces its representative in the final phase of Crue's #HiloTesis contest

In her Twitter thread, María Paola explained her research in 19 tweets. Her thesis focuses on identifying the transnational practices that Paraguayan migrant women in Spain carry out with their families in the country of origin and what links they maintain. Taking into account that Paraguayan migration in Spain is made up mainly of women, María Paola interviewed 20 Paraguayan women living in Madrid and Barcelona as well as their relatives in Paraguay and analysed how these migrant women are the main economic providers of their families, how they are involved in the education of their children from a distance, and how they even do their grocery shopping online in Paraguayan supermarkets.

A total of 11 PhD students from the UAB participated in this fourth edition of the #HiloTesis contest, which this year has allowed publications on X (Twitter), Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, or by using Instagram's carousel posts.

The participants had to explain their PhD thesis in a thread of 20 tweets maximum, in a simple, accessible and attractive language. From the local phase, open from 00:00 a.m. on 1 June to 11:59 p.m. on 15 June, the winner was chosen to move on to the final phase. The winner of the fourth edition of the #HiloTesis contest is expected to be announced in the first half of July 2024.

The aim of this contest, organised by Crue Universidades Españolas, is to promote the development of communication and scientific dissemination skills among PhD students and recent graduates. In the past edition of #HiloTesis, 384 theses from 47 Crue member universities were presented.
