Framed into the European project “Measures of Social Inclusion and Equity in Institutions of Upper Education in Latin America” (MISEAL) will carry out in Barcelona, the International Congress “New challenges for the social inclusion and the equity to the Upper Education” on 17, 18 and 19 November 2014.

The MISEAL project takes as its starting point the fact that Latin America is the region with the higher index of inequality in the world. In front of the question of which are the institutions that reinforce this problem and, therefore, have influence on the inequality, we have observed that the field of education and his institutions are actors of big importance. Precisely, in the field of upper education, manifest and reproduce processes of exclusion that arise from divergences as economic as of gender, race and ethnicity.

Owed to the context of current socioeconomic crisis, this is not a specific problem in developing regions, but that also in Europe the cut of the public expenditure has increased the index of social inequality. In this stage, it is necessary look for new ways to promote mechanisms of inclusion and empowering of minorities and populations historically excluded of the upper education.

The congress will suppose a point of meeting between professionals of several disciplines and structures to the universities, and other organizations that have a key role in the design and implementation of policies, to increase the number of people from vulnerable groups in the upper education. Here they will debate subjects of interest to generate mechanisms of inclusion since different optical (micro and macro), and on the lessons learnt in the development of political inclusion to the institutions of upper education.

Therefore, it will create synergies between different international institutions that will enable the future collaborations in the creation of a transnational network of experts in subjects of inclusion to the upper education.

The relevance of MISEAL project resides in awareness on the need to develop measures and policies that allow structural changes on a long-term. The approach from the intersectional prospect of the project has been a key element in the generation of knowledge on the multiple shapes of inequality to the upper education that has produced to each participant institutions.

The registration to assist or take part on the congress is free and can be done on the web of the Observatori per a la Igualtat. The number of assistants is limited; therefore the term of registration, opened until 1 November, can close before.
