Seminar on masculinity and patriarcal reactions
On 19 October, the UAB Observatory for Equality will be organising a seminar to reflect upon masculinity today and the new wave of reactions against advances in feminism.
In 1991, Susan Faludi published her famous book Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women where she reflected upon the phenomenon of reactions against feminism and the increase in violence against women seen in the 1980s. Her theories are currently more alive than ever and society is now experiencing a new surge in backlashes, in which women, and particularly feminists, are targeted once again.
Tuesday, 19 October the UAB's Observatory for Equality will be holding a seminar to debate and reflect upon hegemonic masculinity and its transformations, contradictions and unease with the rise in the feminist movement. The round table will focus on the subject of Masculinity and the Anti-Feminist Agenda of the Extreme Right, and will include the participation of Mónica Cornejo, doctor in Anthropology from the UCM and researcher in the anti-gender movement in Spain; and Steven Forti, historian, lecturer at the UAB and researcher specialising in extreme-right and fascisms. The debate will be moderated by Adrián Pascale, PhD student at the University of Girona and lecturer of law at the UAB.
The presentation-talk will touch upon subjects such as Incels, youtubers and trolls: misogyny in the networks, and the writing group Proyecto Una, authors of Leia, Rihana & Trump.
