Second edition of Women's Science and Entrepreneurship conference

The conference on "Women's Science and Entrepreneurship. Let's Overcome the Imposter Syndrome" took place on Friday 20 October and aimed to give visibility to leading women in innovation and entrepreneurship at the UAB. The activity took place at the Theatre Hall and was organised as part of the UAB Innovation Week.

The UAB Theatre Hall hosted this Friday 20 October the workshop on "Women's Science and Entrepreneurship. Lets' Overcome the Impostor Syndrome". The activity formed part of the UAB Innovation Week. This is the second edition of this conference, whose aim is to give visibility to women leaders in innovation and entrepreneurship on the UAB campus, identify their needs and facilitate networking among participants.

On this occasion, the conference focused on the internal and external constraints faced by female researchers and explored personal experiences, challenges and strategies to overcome the impostor syndrome and break through the glass ceiling. Leading experts and practitioners shared their knowledge, research and practical experiences. The event was introduced by Laia Arnal, director general of Knowledge Transfer and Society of the Catalan Ministry for Research and Universities; Esther Zapater, secretary general of the UAB; and Alicia Bosch Palma, vice-president of the Social Council. There was a round table discussion entitled "Let's break the glass ceiling" moderated by Teresa Tarragó, co-founder and executive director of the biotech company BeyondYou, with the participation of Núria Salán, president of the Catalan Society of Technology, Mariona Serra, co-founder of GoodGut and former president of the University-Business Commission of the UAB Social Council, Ana Caño Delgado, researcher at CRAG and founder of PLANET Biotech, Maria Teresa Sordé Martí, lecturer of sociology at the UAB, principal investigator of the H2020 REFUGE-ED project and affiliated to the GEDIME - CER-Migrations group at the UAB.

The president of the entrepreneurship commission of the International Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs (FIDEM) Teresa Baró gave a motivational talk entitled "No Shame: make yourself seen, make yourself heard", followed by the participatory activity "Present your project with impact", which offered practical strategies for presenting scientific content effectively, given by Silvia Solá, public speaking coach at the UAB Language Service, Ana Sánchez, winner of the Thesis in 4 Minutes 2022 competition, Carla Castellar, scientist at Nanomol Technologies, Nivea Cristina Heluey, PhD student in Philosophy studying for a doctorate in Strategic Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Patricia Aymá, technical director of VEnvirotech, and Marta Pascual Estarellas, general manager of Qilimanjaro. The event was closed by Rosa María Sebastián Pérez, Vice Rector for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship at the UAB and director of the UAB Research Park.

The Innovation Week is part of the Spain Up Nation strategy and is funded by the NextGenerationEU plan of the European Union, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Spanish Government, led by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism through the School of Industrial Organisation.
