Changes in the UAB governing team

Assumpció Malgosa, professor of Physical Anthropology, is the new Vice Rector for Research, and Carme Nogués, professor of Cell Biology, is the new Vice Rector for Organisation. Changes have also been made to some of the vice rectors' offices and their functions.

Since 1 September, Assumpció Malgosa Morera is the new Vice Rector for Research. Professor of Physical Anthropology at the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology, her academic and research trajectory has focused on the study of human remains, both in the area of human evolution, by studying ancient remains, and in forensic anthropology. As head of the Osteobiography Research Group (GROB), she has led a multidisciplinary team in reconstructing the life of ancient populations by studying skeletal bones and genetically analysing ancient remains, and focusing on identifying individuals, the origin of the population, palaeopathologies, palaeodiets, etc. She has led national and international projects, and also highly important projects for Catalonia such as the study of the remains of the royal tombs located at the Monastery of Santa Maria de Santes Creus, a pilot project and the protocol for the excavation and study of mass graves from the Spanish Civil War, and the study of frozen tombs in Mongolia.

With regard to management positions at the UAB, Professor Malgosa has directed the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology, acted as Vice Dean of Academic Ordenance at the Faculty of Science, and been delegate to the Rector for Academic Staff and Research Staff in Training.

Until now, Professor Malgosa was delegate tot he Rector for Scientific Policies and now takes over from Armand Sánchez, who recently retired.

 

New Vice Rector for Organisation
Carme Nogués Sanmiquel is the new Vice Rector for Organisation, a position she occupies since 5 September. Professor of Cell Biology at the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology, and member of the consolidated research group at the Cell Biology Unit, she has done research stays at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and at the Texas A&M University in the United States. She has been head of the Cell Biology Unit in several occasions, head of academic ordenance (1987-1990), coordinator of economic affairs (1996-2002), and secretary (2000-2004 and in 2006) of the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology.
She has taken part in over 20 national and international research projects, and was lead researcher in six of these projects. Her research focuses on cell cultures, the development of different culture systems (static, dynamic, three-dimensional, etc.) for the study of new materials and devices that can be of interest in biomedicine. Her research has led her to publish over 90 indexed articles.

Until now, Professor Nogués was assistant to the Office of the Vice Rector for Innovation and Strategic Projects. She takes over from Josep Vendrell, who is currently on leave of absence.

 

Changes in Names and Functions
Changes have also been made to some of the offices and their functions: the Office of the Vice Rector for Research and Transfer is now the Office of the Vice Rector for Research, while the Office of the Vice Rector for Innovation and Strategic Projects is now the Office of the Vice Rector for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship.
