Next Tuesday, 8 March will take place the XI Institutional Ceremony in commemoration of the International Women's Day. This year, the Observatory for Equality at UAB will honorFátima Bosch Tubert, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UAB and Director of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG). The event will be held at 12 pm in the Theatre of the UAB (Agora Building, Civic Square).

Virginia Haurigot, Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and also technical staff of CBATEG, will introduce the academic and professional career of Fatima Bosch. Moreover, a video, with several witnesses of her personal and professional career, will be projected.
 
At the same event, we will have the pleasure of listening the speech on "The Law of Gender" by Octavio Salazar Benítez, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Córdoba.

A reference gene therapy

Fàtima Bosch got her degree on Pharmacy and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona. She extended hertraining through herpost-doctoral stay in the USA (Vanderbilt University, Case Western Reserve and National Cancer Institute). Since 1998, she is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UAB, where she leads the Center for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG).
It is important to highlight her research contribution in the field of gene transfer, the study of the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus in transgenic animal models and gene therapy for this disease.
In 1992 she co-founded the European Society of Gene Therapy. She is Vice President of EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes) and associate editor of the journal Human Gene Therapy, specializing in the field of gene therapy. She is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the American Gene Therapy Society, the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Spanish Society of Gene Therapy, among others.
Fàtima Bosch has received, among others, the Prize Rey D. Juan Carlos I, the Prize Francisco Grande de Covián forher scientific career, la Medalla Narcís Monturiol de la Generalitat de Cataluña and la Creu de Sant Jordi.

Other activities

Moreover, in the framework of the International Working Women's Day, during the month of March, several activities are organizedat UAB . Such as exhibitions, panel discussions and conferences.

As important activity this year, as a part of the events of March 8,will take place the First Marathon of fast debates in the UAB, with the subject: “Employment public policies are effective to achieve equality between women and men”. The activity will be held in theCollective Resource Center in the Plaça Cívica, between 10h and 17 handis co-organized by the Observatory for Equality and “Dinamització Comunitària”.

Within
