FTI student receives award for best TFG in Spain related to the Arabic language
On the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, the SEDLA 2025 Arabic Language Awards ceremony, organised by the Spanish Society of Arabic Language Teachers (SEDLA), took place at Casa Árabe in Madrid on 18 December. In this second edition of the awards, Berta Fernández Zafón, student at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at the UAB, received first prize for the best Final Degree Project (TFG) in Spain related to the Arabic language.
The SEDLA Awards aim to promote research and teaching of Arabic as a foreign language (EALE), and annually recognise the best undergraduate projects and master's theses in this field. The awards ceremony coincides each year with the celebration of World Arabic Language Day.
Berta Fernández, student of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, received the award for the best Final Degree Project in Spain under the title "The Teaching of Arabic as a Foreign Language at UAB and INALCO: a Contrastive Study of the Teaching Resources Used".
In her acceptance speech, Berta defended the importance of promoting the teaching of Arabic in Spain, and explained that for her, languages are one of the most sincere ways of discovering what we do not know from a perspective of respect and equality. She also took the opportunity to thank her lecturers for their teachings and trust, especially Anna Gil, her TFG tutor and the founder and current director of the Master's Degree in Contemporary Arabic Studies at the FTI.
The UAB Faculty of Translation and Interpreting congratulates Berta for her award, which highlights the academic excellence of our students and the quality of the faculty's teaching training.
