Pregnancy leads to changes in the mother's brain

A study directed by researchers from the UAB and IMIM are the first to reveal how pregnancy causes long-lasting alterations in brain structure, probably related to improving the mother’s ability to protect and interact with the child. The research was published in Nature Neuroscience.

Europe’s earliest humans did not use fire

New research conducted by ICREA, the UAB and the University of York reveals that Europe’s earliest humans had a balanced diet of meat and plants. The dental plaque from a 1.2 million year old hominin indicates that food was eaten raw, backing the hypothesis that intentional use of fire had not yet occurred.

Medievalist expert Matthias M. Tischler, UAB's new ICREA professor

Matthias M. Tischler will be the new ICREA Senior Research Professor at the Institute for Medieval Studies starting in January 2017. Tischler co-directs the European project HERA on the construction of Europe after the fall of the Carolingian Empire and is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Transcultural Medieval Studies.
