These new degrees are now part of the already existing offer of double degrees at the UAB, which have obtained excellent results in both student interest and academic results.

The UAB increases the number of double degrees offered in the next academic year with five new study programmes: Applied Statistics + Sociology, Law + Criminology, Law + Industrial Relations, Early Childhood Education + Primary Education, Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering + Mechanical Engineering. And for the first time, it will also offer a degree in Economics taught fully in English.

Double degrees permit students to study two degrees simultaneously and earn two qualifications in five or six years. With this option, students acquire a multidisciplinary training and expand their range of knowledge, skills and professional options.

Bachelor's Degree in Applied Statistics + Sociology

Given the large amount of information in today's society and the effect that communication technologies are having, this double degree focuses on the study of techniques associated with data analysis processes and their applications. Students receive training in sociology with the aim of creating and treating data, and in choosing statistical techniques and analysis tools to formulate proposals for improvement policies based on the obtained data. Graduates of this double degree will acquire the skills needed to work in official organisations working with statistical information and/or market research companies.

Bachelor's Degree in Law + Industrial Relations

In five years, students can not only acquire the complete legal training offered by the degree in law, but also specialise in the field of labour law and social security found in the degree in industrial relations. This double degree includes the characteristic cross-curricular approach existing in Industrial Relations, combining knowledge and skills in sociology, economics and psychology. The degree is addressed to students with a high degree of social commitment and justice, concerned with ethical values and with a talent for personal relations and negotiation processes. Career options include both legal areas and the human resource sector.

Bachelor's Degree in Criminology + Law

This degree lasts 5.5 academic years and is especially recommended for those interested in legal professions which aim to work on the phenomenon of crime: lawyers, prosecutors, chief police officers, criminal defence lawyer, directors of prison, those responsible for the attention of victims, etc. Career options for graduates of this double degree are therefore the same as in the degree in law (advocacy, procuracy, legal services for the public administration, etc.) and professional work in areas related to crime, such as assessment to judges and prosecutors, crime sentencing and security measures, crime mediation and the resolution of extra-judicial conflicts, attention to the victim and assessment of reinsertion programmes.

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education + Primary Education

In five academic years, students take the courses of Primary Education in the mornings and courses in Early Childhood Education in the afternoons. Students thus gain skills to work in nursery and preschools (0 to 6 years) as well as in primary education (6 to 12 years) to become school teachers. This double degree also offers training in nonformal learning and in pre-school childcare services. To be admitted to the double degree, students must take a personal aptitude test, which in the 2014/15 academic year will consist of obtaining an average mark of 5 or higher in Catalan and Spanish in the general phase of the university entrance exams (PAU), and not scoring a grade lower than 4 in either of the exams.

Bachelor's Degree in Automation and Industrial Electronic Engineering + Mechanical Engineering

This double degree is offered at the University School "Escola Universitària Salesiana de Sarrià" in Barcelona, and gives students the chance to develop general skills in industrial engineering in the first two academic years. The following courses focus on specialising in a combination of industrial mechanics and electronics and automation. In the subject Engineering by Doing, students do a work placement at a company and carry out an outlined training project. With regard to career options, graduates can focus on sectors such as construction, machinery, metallurgy and automation, as well as the application of electronic and microelectronic devices in production processes (working with microprocessors, electronic instruments, automats and robots, etc.).

A Successful Option

These new degrees are now part of the already existing offer of double degrees at the UAB, which have always obtained excellent results in both student interest and academic results: Environmental Sciences + Geology, Physics + Mathematics, Physics + Chemistry, Business Management and Administration + Law, Political Science and Public Administration + Law, Spanish and French Law (joint degree offered by University of Paris II and UAB), Computer Engineering + Telecommunications Electronics Engineering, and Computer Engineering + Telecommunications Systems Engineering.

Bachelor's Degree in Economics in English

In the context of an increasingly global society, the UAB counts with the international experience and training of its teaching staff to offer a competitive Economics degree in English which will allow students to develop the professional skills needed in organisations working in global markets.

The UAB thus adds to its strategic studies in English to fulfil the demands of not only the 5,000 international students visiting the UAB each year, but also local students interested in a high quality study programme (bachelor's degree, master's degree, postgraduate and PhD programmes) which can also provide them with the tools to improve their skills and knowledge in English.

At the moment, the UAB offers two degrees taught fully in English: Business Management and Administration and Primary Education.
