The UAB among the top 100 in 9 disciplines, according the the QS Ranking by Subject

Veterinary Medicine rises seven positions and places the UAB in 24th top university in the world in this year's QS Ranking by Subject. The university is among the top 100 in 8 other subjects.

Since 2011, QS annually publishes its QS World University Rankings by subjects. This ranking, which was first issued after its global rankings, classifies the top universities in the world according to 51 subjects with the aim of helping future students identify the leading universities in each specific study area. The number of universities classified varies for each specialisation, and can range from 2,266 in Arts and Design to 193 in Theology. More than 157 countries are represented in this ranking.

The UAB this year achieves its best position in Veterinary Medicine, ranking 24 worldwide, and rises seven points in comparison to last year's edition. The UAB once again ranks among the top 100 universities worldwide in a total of 9 subjects, although it does fall lower in the ranking in five areas of knowledge: Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Engineering and Technology.

The subjects Veterinary Medicine, Archaeology, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Geography, Economics, Educaiton, Sociology and Social Politics, and Administration are among the top 100 in each of their categories. When compared to last year's edition, Linguistics has moved up to the top 100 and Agriculture and Forestry fall from this section.

As a whole, the UAB is among the top 200 universities in 29 of the 51 subjects classified by QS, which represents one more subject than last year.

Located in the positions 101 to 150 are Anthropology, Communication, History, Chemical Engineering, Agriculture and Forestry, Environmental Science, Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics and Psychology. In the 151 to 200 range we find English Studies, Art&Design, Chemistry, Law, Medicine, Pharmacology, Biology, Earth Sciences, Political Sciences and International Relations, Geology and Geophysics.

A total of 10 universities in Spain have subjects ranking in the top 50 range: the UB (Anatomy, in 35th position; Library and Information Management, 37; Philosophy, 46), the UPC (Civil Engineering, 23; Architecture, 21; Electrical Engineering, 46), the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Odontology, 18; Veterinary Medicine, 35; Modern Languages, 35), the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Architecture, 37; Civil Engineering, 35), the Universitat Ramon Llull (Business Administration, 21; Tourism, 49),  the Universidad de Navarra (Business Administration, 25; Accounting&Finances, 46), the UAB (Veterinary Medicine, 24), the UC3M (Economics, 46), the IE University (Accounting&Finances, 28), and the EU Turisme Sant Pol (Tourism, 24).
