A debate will be held on the need to create a teaching model capable of shaping democratic, critical, socially committed citizens.
From 7 to 9 February the Faculty of Education will host the International Conference on the Research into the Teaching of Social Sciences, organised by the Research Group in Teaching of the Social Sciences (GREDICS), with the objective of being a meeting point for the theory and practice of interrelations between teachers from different educational stages: early childhood, primary, secondary and upper secondary, and university.

During the sessions members will be able to share experiences, sensations, concerns and reflections on education, teaching and learning in the social sciences field. This year the sessions are entitled “The Future Begins Now. Teaching Social Sciences to Interpret the World and Act Socially”.

Among the activities programmed are conferences by Catherine Duquette, Sonia Miranda and Jordi Nomen; a debate with Joan Pagès and Ramon Arnabat, who will speak on the contributions of Josep Fontana to education and teaching of the social sciences. There will also be the presentation of "What is happening in the world? What are we teaching? For an education in the social sciences focused on social justice and a global citizenship", which criticises the current education syllabus for being detached from today's problems, and offers ideas to educate critical thinking, democratic citizens capable of interpreting conflicts and committed to bringing about social change.
