The first Veterinary Employment Fair (JOVs) took place on Thursday 18 April at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It offered the opportunity to give visibility to the different job opportunities and fields of work, and future professionals have been able to have direct contact with companies and organizations in the sectors of Veterinary Medicine and Food Science and Technology. The meeting also served for the exchange of information on current training and professional needs, as well as technological advances in the field of veterinary medicine and food.

The inauguration was attended by Manel López Béjar, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB. The dean explained that "with this first fair we want to bring the profession closer to students and clarify ideas regarding career opportunities, as well as to know what kind of skills and abilities are needed today to find a job". For his part, Rector Lafuente pointed out that "contact days like today with companies in the sector allow us to better connect with society". For Rector Lafuente, one of the main functions of the university is to respond to the needs of society.

A stand area was set up in the faculty's entrance hall, where companies and organisations of the sector had the opportunity to present themselves. In addition, conferences and round tables with relevant speakers and topics were held in the Sall d'actes and the Sala de graus. There was also the opportunity to participate in speed-interviews, a format in which students have quick interviews to expose their more personalised project and to resolve individual doubts or even seek agreements for internships or work.

Three round tables were held on the different career options for veterinarians, with Carmen Chacón, Deputy Director of Food Safety and Health Protection of the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Pilar Gurria, veterinarian and small animal clinician; María Jesús Crespo, Head of Research and Development and Regulatory Affairs; and Josep Solé, veterinarian and swine specialist.

The second round table dealt with CTA with participants such as Jordi Plans, from the IMCD Group; Laura Mendoza, from Plimon Global SLU; Mar Bosch i Castells, from Bimbo Group; and Guillem Gervilla, from Jacobs Douwe Egberts, all of them professionals graduated from the UAB. And the third round table will discuss the possibilities of specialisation in veterinary clinic and will feature Anna Andaluz, Montse Rivera, Eduard José Cunilleras and Jordi Franch, lecturers of the faculties with experience in the field of clinical specialisation.

The fair had 22 stands of companies and institutions such as the Government of Catalonia, the Association of Veterinarians of Catalonia, the UAB Job Employment Service, the Hospital Clínic Veterinari, as well as companies of the sector.
