Student María Paola Ayala wins Crue #HiloTesis contest

In her Twitter thread, María Paola explained her research in 19 tweets. Her thesis focuses on identifying the transnational practices that Paraguayan migrant women in Spain carry out with their families in the country of origin and what links they maintain. Taking into account that Paraguayan migration in Spain has a woman's face, María Paola interviewed 20 Paraguayan women living in Madrid and Barcelona as well as their relatives in Paraguay, and analysed how these migrant women are the main economic provider of their families, how they are involved in the education of their children from a distance, and how they even shop online in supermarkets.

The #HiloTesis contest awarded five other students from the University of Valladolid, the University of Valencia, the University of La Rioja, the University Rey Juan Carlos and the University of Cantabria. They will each receive a prize of 500 euros, provided by the Larramendi Foundation.

Thirty people participated in the evaluation, most of them vice-rectors of the Scientific Culture units of various universities. Each thread was peer-reviewed by at least three different people and a score was awarded according to the criteria of the contest rules.

In this fourth edition of the #HiloTesis contest, which this year allowed publications in X (Twitter), Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon or by using the carousel of Instagram images, a total of 362 doctoral students participated, 11 of them from the UAB.

The participants had to explain their doctoral thesis in a thread of 20 tweets maximum, in a simple, accessible and attractive language.
