Next Monday, June 2nd at 1:30 p.m., the Theatre Hall of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will host the traditional Spring Concert, performed by the UAB Choir and Orchestra. The event, open to the entire university community, will offer a rich and contrasting programme, inviting the audience to enjoy classical music at its finest.

The concert will open with the Symphony No. 5 in B♭ minor, D 485 by Austrian composer Franz Schubert. Written in 1816, this symphony stands out for its freshness and lightness, with a musical language clearly influenced by Haydn and Mozart. The four-movement work combines lyricism and vitality, already showcasing Schubert’s melodic genius in his youth.

The programme continues with selections from the incidental music Pelléas et Mélisande, Op. 80 by French composer Gabriel Fauré. Composed in 1898 for Maurice Maeterlinck’s play of the same name, the suite conveys a dreamy and refined atmosphere. Pieces such as the Prélude and the delicate Sicilienne are especially renowned for their serene and evocative beauty.

In the second part of the concert, the UAB Choir will join the orchestra to perform one of the most iconic chorales of the Baroque repertoire: “Jesus bleibet meine Freude”, from Cantata BWV 147 by Johann Sebastian Bach. This piece, rich in expressive depth, symbolizes the spiritual balance and serenity so characteristic of the German master.

The Spring Concert promises to be a memorable musical experience, bringing together young talent and a passion for music in one of the campus's most emblematic venues.
