Sign up for the FAS volunteering activities: new places open!
Do you want your time at university to have a positive social impact and at the same time learn alongside students with the same interests as you? Volunteering at university gives you the opportunity to meet new people and also contribute in generating social justice. This semester, the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) opens new volunteering places for those interested in carrying out social actions at schools, hospitals and even here on the UAB campus. Prior training is offered to all participants and the volunteering tasks can be validated for academic credits.
Since the beginning of the academic year, 200 people have signed up to volunteer in one of the social action programmes offered by the FAS. Most of these volunteers highlight that the experience not only helped them meet new people, but also that they have grown professionally, learned to work in groups and developed a critical vision on many social inequalities.
With the start of a new semester, new volunteering places are available for members of the university community. The programmes seeking to expand their teams are:
The CROMA 2.0 programme has opened a total of 15 new places. Volunteers will be involved in a variety of workshops with primary school pupils in schools near the university, one or two afternoons per week. In the workshops, children in vulnerable situations are supported with motivating activities that will help them enjoy the classroom and spark their interest in learning.
If you want to volunteer in hospitals, the Social Health Programme needs 12 people to accompany hospitalised children, adolescents, and adults at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron or at the Hospital Sant Pau. With just two hours a week, volunteers will carry out activities with hospitalised patients and their families to offer them support and lift their mood.
The Environment and Environmental Justice programme is also offering 10 new places this semester. This group carries out activities to promote environmental education on campus, to connect with the biodiversity around us, and to raise awareness about sustainability and eco-social justice. It organises a clothing swap fair, clean-up events, environmental education workshops, hanging and monitoring of nest boxes, and many other activities.
The Health programme is also looking for people intereseted in being Campus Health Educators. Volunteers will form part of El Xiringu, providing information on drugs, sexualities and mental health, and receive peer‑to‑peer training to educate other students on health and leisure topics.
As for the Welcome Refugee programme, 10 new spots have opened this semester. To help include people seeking asylum, volunteers will participate in a social mentoring project where they will learn about interculturality, anti-racism, and human rights. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to meet young people seeking asylum who are participating to connect with people like you to practice the language, discover the area, and share leisure and recreational activities.
