Once again, the UAB's Solidarity Foundation (FAS) has announced the Arcadi Oliveres Award for Final Projects, carried out by students of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and which, due to their subject matter, contribute to transformation and global justice.
This initiative aims to promote research in terms relevant to society, such as the culture of peace, migration, social economy and community health. It also reinforces the University's commitment to the challenges of today's world and its key role in the creation of critical knowledge and the formation of an active citizenry committed to social change.
As set down in the rules and regulations of this 8th edition, the works submitted were subjected to an evaluation process consisting of two phases: a first phase in which each TFG was evaluated by an expert lecturer in the field of each work and by the technical team of the Area of Cooperation and Education for Global Justice. Subsequently, based on the results of the evaluations, the resolution committee met and resolved the call for proposals, awarding prizes by bachelor's degree.
This year's winners are: Carla León Contreras from the Faculty of Medicine; Anna Altisen Parera from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; Rubén Mulas López from the School of Engineering; Laura Mariné Argerich from the Faculty of Biosciences; Bernalae Anne Bandolín Rosario, Bernat Francesch Itxart and Gisela Hernández García from the Faculty of Arts & Humanities; Iva Mareva and Rafael Eduardo Oviedo Carrillo from the Faculty of Communication Studies; Quim Aguilera Cuatrecases and Mireia Canut Roca from the Faculty of Education; Pau Roig Martinez, Lila Falguera Ruiz, Safiya Kerchaoui Hajjoubi, Marina Grau Llaurador and Arianna Valentino from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology; and Marina Sánchez Conde from the Faculty of Law.
On 7 May, the winners will present their TFGs and receive their diplomas. In addition, the event will serve to announce the winners by field of knowledge who will receive a cash prize for their projects. All the awarded works will be deposited in the UAB Digital Document Repository with the CC-BY-SA license on a non-exclusive basis.
The UAB Arcadi Oliveres Awards
The UAB's Solidarity Foundation has announced the eighth edition of these awards to reward the best bachelor's degree final projects in the key of transformation for global justice carried out by students of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and presented during the 2023/24 academic year. Starting with the sixth edition, the call was renamed the ARCADI OLIVERES Award in memory of the much-missed UAB professor.
Oliveres was a very popular economist and activist, a model for various social movements linked to global justice: anti-militarism and peace, international solidarity and cooperation, the anti-globalisation movement, environmentalism and degrowth, etc. In addition to lecturing in Economics at the UAB from 1980 to 2019, where he was a much beloved professor, he always stood out for his good nature and social commitment to critical knowledge and the construction of, as he put it, “another possible and necessary world”.
