Registration open for the 2026/27 Regional Academy on the United Nations
The Regional Academy on the United Nations (RAUN) once again organises a new edition of its international education programme. The initiative is aimed at master's and PhD students, as well graduates aged 21 to 35 years old. The 2026/27 RAUN will be focused on the topic "Human security in a fragmented world and the age of emerging technologies" and will begin in October. The current application period is open until 24 May through this registration form.
RAUN is an international and multidisciplinary educational initiative that brings together several United Nations organisations with master's and PhD students and recent graduates. Students selected for this 7-month programme have the opportunity to take part in research projects for the participating United Nations organisations, as well as attend workshops and seminars offered by experts. The goal of RAUN is to provide networking and academic enrichment opportunities to foster cultural awareness among participants while gaining knowledge of the inner workings of the organisations they will be collaborating with.
The 2026/27 edition will include two three-day face-to-face sessions: one at the end of October in Barcelona, and another at the end of April 2027 in Vienna; as well as two three- or four-hour online sessions. Participation in all sessions and active contribution to the final research project are mandatory requirements to complete the programme.
In addition to the online form, those interested must apply by submitting, in a single PDF document, their curriculum vitae in English, a letter of motivation, the academic transcript, a sample of academic work, and two academic or professional references.
RAUN is a non-profit organisation made up of volunteers. Participants must pay a fee of 200 euros. Merit-based scholarships are offered, on a limited basis, for students who cannot pay to participate.
Created in 2012 in Vienna, the Regional Academy works in collaboration with academic institutions and international organisations such as the United Nations system, the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), and the United Nations Information Service (UNIS Vienna). Since its creation, more than 400 young researchers and professionals have participated in the programme and have continued their careers in the academic, institutional and international fields.
