Project to identify new therapies for Alzheimer's disease receives funding from the Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer’s Association will fund UAB projects studying the molecular alterations of inhibitory neurons which take place in patients with Alzheimer's.
The project, funded with 200,000 dollars, will be led by Ramón y Cajal researcher at the Institute of Neurosciences of the UAB (INc-UAB) Arnaldo Parra Damas, and will also analyse how these changes affect neuronal circuits involved in memory.
This project will allow the study of changes in gene expression and function of inhibitory neurons in the hippocampus during Alzheimer's disease using new genetic models and neuronal modulation tools.
The focus of this research is to identify new therapeutic targets and early biomarkers specific for this neuronal population, as well as to expand the knowledge about the molecular mechanisms involved in this neurodegenerative disease.
