María Jesús Espuny re-elected as UAB Ombuds
The UAB Senate has re-elected María Jesús Espuny, lecturer of History of Law and Institutions, as Ombuds of the UAB. The election was approved in the ordinary session of the Senate on 18 June. Espuny has held the position of university ombudswoman since 2022.
The ombuds must guarantee compliance with all that is provided for in the UAB statutes, and must make, on a non-binding basis, proposals for resolving matters that have been submitted to them before the competent bodies. The ombuds exercises their functions with independence and objectivity, is not subject to any mandatory mandate, does not receive instructions from any authority, and acts autonomously and in accordance with their own criteria, within the framework of what is established in the UAB statutes. Recently, the University celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Ombuds' Office in an institutional event that included the participation, among others, of Esther Giménez-Salinas, Ombuds of Catalonia.
María Jesús Espuny has stood out as a promoter of the studies of Labour Relations at the UAB. She was also vice-dean of the Faculty of Law, coordinator of the double degree in Labour Relations and Law, director of the Centre for Studies and Research on Women and Rights, and coordinator of the Labour Relations Alumni Community. In 2016, she received the Jaume Vicens Vives distinction for University Teaching Quality awarded by the Government of Catalonia. The same year, she received a plaque in recognition of her work in the field of labour relations at the annual dinner of the Barcelona Association of Labour Relations and HR Professionals. The UAB also paid tribute to lecturer Espuny at the event celebrating International Working Women's Day in 2019.
