Josep Maria de Dios appointed international arbitrator by Shanghai institute

The Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission is a prestigious legal arbitration institute located in the economic capital of China. Josep Maria de Dios, professor in private international law at the UAB, has been elected international arbitrator by this institute.

Josep Maria de Dios, professor in private international law at the UAB, has been elected international arbitrator by the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (also known as the Shanghai International Arbitration Center, SHIAC).

The SHIAC is an independent arbitration institute which works in several areas: trade, technology transfer, insurance, finances, real estate, etc. The new arbitration panel is made up of 858 arbitrators from 61 different countries and regions.

Dr de Dios earned his degree in Law from the UAB and a PhD in Law, also at the UAB, with the thesis "Els efectes extraterritorials de les decisions concursals" (The Extraterritorial Effects of Receivership Decisions). He is professor of the UAB Department of Private Law and lectures on private international law, both at the UAB and at the University of Girona. He has been visiting professor at the Université de Montréal, Canada; the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law, Switzerland; and the Hague Academy of International Law, the Netherlands. He was Dean of the UAB Faculty of Law from 2008 to 2013

and has participated in several research projects focused on issues related to international law in Europe. He has published monographs and papers on private international law and EU law in both national and international journals, on subjects such as immigration law, free legal assistance, competence law, free circulation of people and goods, multiculturalism, etc.
