A new academic term has started and the Autonomous Solidarity Foundation calls on those who would like to volunteer in tasks of social impact. One of the UAB’s most appreciated standards is the students’ involvement in social actions, which are a tool for social transformation. The students’ involvement helps to raise awareness on the existing inequalities in our society, so that we can all effectively work to change them. Watch this Powtoon if you want to know why you should volunteer.

In the first term of this academic year, more than 350 people have volunteered at the Autonomous Solidarity Foundation (FAS), working on different programmes. In the second term, there are 120 vacancies to be filled at the following volunteer programmes:

- Reception: The volunteers will provide language and social support for refugees to promote and facilitate their integration in Catalonia. This activity is developed at the UAB Campus.

- CROMA: If you like working with children and teenagers, this programme is perfect for you. The CROMA programme is one of the FAS’ most long-standing and successful initiatives. Volunteers will provide emotional and academic support to boys and girls in more than 20 schools within the Valles Occidental region by organizing monitored study sessions and activities aimed at social-skills development. In the second term of this academic year, there are 18 new vacancies!

- Justice: Are you curious about how is life in prison? There are 20 vacancies for volunteers to work in several prisons. There, volunteers will organize activities and workshops on language practising, body language, radio production, employment and a book club. If you would rather volunteer at Juvenile Justice Centres, there are 30 vacancies that need to be filled as well!

- Let’s Go: In this socio-educational programme, the volunteers will give English lessons to 12 to 15-year-old students of Badia del Valles. On the second term of this academic year, we are looking for 3 volunteers with excellent knowledge of English who are enthusiastic about working with teenagers!

- Environment: Volunteer programme on biodiversity at the Bellaterra Campus. The volunteers will carry out different research and environmental education activities, such as ornithology, a workshop to learn how to build nest boxes, special days for bird ringing, etc.

- Juvenile mentoring: We are looking for university students who are particularly interested in social aspects and would like to mentor young students from Sabadell who find themselves in a social risk situation.

- PAH: The PAH (Plataforma d’Afectats per la Hipoteca or “Mortgage Victims’ Platform”) volunteer programme offers the chance of lending a hand to the members of the platform in defending decent housing and blocking evictions.

- Public health:This programme operates in two different action areas. On the one hand, you can volunteer at the Vall d’Hebron children’s and maternity hospital and organize workshops and activities for the kids in the hospital. On the other hand, volunteers can mentor and support the activities held at Barcelona’s Centre Forum Health Park. These are personal welfare activities for the elderly and people with a high degree of dependency.

- UniX:The UniX programme is aimed at improving the mathematical skills of 7th and 8th grade students. The volunteers will have to create and organize different workshops to encourage the students in their learning process. If you would like to know how volunteering feels like, here you can listen to other students’ personal experiences.
