The UAB Theatre and the UAB Cinema have consolidated their position as cultural epicentres on campus, offering a wide range of activities and shows for the entire university community. In the academic year 2022-2023, Cultura en Viu, the University's service for the promotion and creation of artistic and cultural activities, offered a programme of 125 activities in which 6,000 people took part. Of particular note are the 18 educational activities, 4 exhibitions, 37 screenings, 20 theatre and dance activities and 38 music activities that have taken place in different spaces on and off campus.

The UAB Theatre has hosted a total of 46 different activities, from performances and concerts of its own production to conferences. With a seating capacity of 120 people, this space has showcased professional productions, as well as supporting amateur artistic creation. More than 1900 people have enjoyed the activities organised in this cultural facility of the university.

The UAB Cinema has been a meeting point for lovers of the seventh art, as 37 films, documentaries and short films have been screened and 2,000 spectators have attended them. This room, with a capacity for 190 people, has also been an ideal space for organising seminars and conferences.

The Exhibition Hall, located in the building of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Library, in the Civic Square, has hosted a total of 4 exhibitions over the course of the year, becoming a space for the dissemination of various forms of visual art.

These cultural facilities have made it possible to satisfy the cultural needs of the university community, offering opportunities for learning, entertainment and artistic creation, and at the same time, they have been the venue for activities of an academic and institutional nature.

The service for the promotion and creation of artistic and cultural activities at the UAB has promoted 58 academic support activities, including the Inclusive Artistic Week with the University Social Responsibility programme and collaboration with different festivals, such as IndieFEST in Barcelona with the Department of Anthropology, La Dionisíaca with the Department of Philosophy and the BoFestival.

Cultura en Viu has also placed special emphasis on artistic training, with its Dance, Music, Theatre and Writing Classrooms. These classrooms have offered 18 introductory and intermediate level workshops in various artistic disciplines, with the participation of approximately 100 people.

The results achieved in the dance training workshops have been translated into 2 shows, directed by Laia Santanach and Mario G. Saéz, which fused aesthetic beauty, technique and artistic expression. On the other hand, the final productions of the different theatre workshops have been Love and Information, Sketches and other pieces, and Tafalitats. These groups have shown a high level of dedication and have captivated the audience with their artistic productions.

The Stable Groups, the most advanced levels of each of the training classes, have performed some of the largest capacity shows of the year, such as the Christmas concert and the Spring concert. With the UAB Choir and Orchestra, the stage of the Theatre Hall has always become a symphonic haven where hypnotic voices and harmonised instruments have created unforgettable moments.

The most relevant cultural impact of this year has been the commemorative open rehearsal of the Opus One orchestra, in homage to the composer Mike Oldfield, for the 50th anniversary of the publication of his first album, Tubular Bells. This concert took place in the UAB Theatre and was a great success, attracting attention both on and off the UAB campus. Subsequently, Opus One had the opportunity to record this same concert at the prestigious ALBA Synchrotron facilities. The video of this recording has become a viral phenomenon, with more than 300,000 views so far.

The “Viu la Cultura” cultural card has allowed students to enjoy the cultural programme available at the Theatre and Cinema Hall, broaden their cultural background with various artistic proposals and validate 2 ECTS credits. This year, a total of 54 students have subscribed to this card, demonstrating the interest and participation of students in the university's cultural activities.

Once again this year, with a wide variety of activities, from theatrical performances to film screenings and exhibitions, these facilities have provided a rich and diverse environment for the support of artistic creation, teaching and the offer of activities, programmes or cycles of various artistic typologies. Moreover, the support for artistic training and the success of outstanding activities, such as the open rehearsal of the Opus One orchestra, have contributed to give visibility and prestige to the cultural activities of the UAB, both on and off campus.
