Carles Miravitlles has passed away
Carles Miravitlles died on 16 April 2023. He was the director and founder of the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona, ICMAB. The UAB wishes to express the sadness felt by her loss and its most heartfelt condolences to all those who knew him.
Professor Carles Miravitlles founded the Institute for Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) at the UAB campus in 1986 and was the institute's director for 21 years, from 1986 to 2008. Carles Miravitlles held a PhD in Pharmacology and began his scientific career as a crystallographer at the University of Barcelona (UB). He later went on to work at the Jaume Almera Institute (CSIC) and finally at the ICMAB, where he continued to maintain close ties. His scientific interest was focused on structural crystallography and X-ray diffraction, mainly on direct methods of solving crystal structures.
