Call for #UABRefugi university study grants now open
Once again, the UAB opens the call for its Modality C refugee grants for the 2024/25 academic year. These grants are aimed at university students in a situation of forced displacement or request for international protection. The purpose of these grants is to compensate for situations that hinder the academic continuation of UAB refugee students in a situation of economic vulnerability. The call is funded by the UAB with the collaboration of the UAB's Fundació Autònoma Solidària.
According to UNHCR data, the maximum figure of 100 million displaced persons in the world was reached at the beginning of the year 2024. In all of 2023, Spain received a total of 160,000 asylum applications (CEAR). Among them were also young people of university age who were forced to interrupt their higher education studies.
The initiative, active since 2016 in collaboration with the Fundació Autònoma Solidària, covers tuition waivers, university fees and other expenses such as academic materials, transport, electronic devices, material for curricular work placements and/or other expenses related to the development of university studies. The total amount of the support grants is €50,000 and the maximum amount per student is €2,500.
According to the terms and conditions of the call, to be eligible for a grant students must meet the following requirements: be applicants or beneficiaries of international protection and/or subsidiary with enrolment of studies at the UAB for the 2024/25 academic year. Secondly, they must participate in the UAB Refugee programme managed by the FAS and beneficiaries of the #UABRefugi grant for exemption from tuition and university fees. Applicants cannot have other scholarships or grants recognised by other public or private organisations, nor be part of the following groups of beneficiaries of #UABRefugi-Ukraine, #UABRefugi-Palestine or #UABRefugi-Jusoor grants.
