"Calidoscòpica", a performance that breaks the stigma of mental healthh
A theatre, performance, musical and dance project organised jointly with BoFestival will be offered 27 November at 4 p.m. at the UAB Theatre Hall as part of the Inclusive Artistic Week. Organised by the Responsabilitat Social Universitària programme, the performance includes the collaboration of CERSIN and Cultura UAB.
"Calidoscòpica" is an innovative protest performance that gives the Inclusive Artistic Week a fresh ironic touch.
Sònia Gómez and Encarni Espallargues reach the UAB with an innovative show that fuses various artistic elements and is resolved with an unusual connection of protest between the two actresses. "Calidoscòpica" brings into the open rarely discussed and hidden topics, such as anxiety, schizophrenia or attention deficit disorder. Through dance and music, the artists aim to break the stigmatisation that many people suffer. Moreover, they propose a totally creative and open performance that generates a dialogue that goes beyond rational thinking.
This show was premiered at the renowned TNT Festival, Terrasa 2023, where Gómez and Espallargues managed to create a triangular system that plays with three essential elements within the piece; the two actresses and a third element that varies throughout the show. Calidoscòpica is, above all, a call for normality through the maximum freedom of movements and sounds.
The meeting of two women is the central axis of this project, which explores mental health and normality. Where “hearing voices, living with obsessive ideas or having abnormal or unusual behaviours” do not suppose an impediment, but they generate an open environment in which to reflect upon what is considered normal.
Sònia and Encarni take over the stage with a structure that begins with them and another element. Love, politics, reality or even the public venture into this performance to create a relaxed and peculiar scenic act. A fusion of diverse terms that have as a union mental health and the elimination of stigmas.
