"Birdwatching": Birds through the lens of Jordi Bartolomé
An exhibition that opens a window into the life of all kinds of birds will be available at the Exhibition Space of the UAB Theatre Hall from 7 April to 20 June. Birdwatching, by Jordi Bartolomé Filella, takes us to the forests of Catalonia and Spain with around thirty diverse photographs that give us an up-close look at the habitat of these birds. The room will be open Mondays to Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the exhibition wil be officially inaugurated on Tuesday 8 April at 12:00 noon.

Birdwatching is an activity that dates back to the 19th century and combines a passion for nature with scientific research. Jordi Bartolomé Filella merges these two passions through his work as a biologist and nature photographer. A tenured professor in the Department of Animal Science and Food (UAB), Bartolomé Filella presents this exhibition as a compilation of his great photographs taken throughout his career as a bird enthusiast and photographer.
The images on display represent what Bartolomé so well explains—that birds are one of the clearest expressions of the fact that “art is present in nature.” His photographs show birds of all kinds, with colourful plumage and various textures that make it easier for the lens to capture and result in dazzling, art-filled images.
These photographs are the result of ornithology, a science dedicated to the study of birds, which has gained popularity through the photography of these animals. Birds, explains Bartolomé Filella, allow for the creation of splendid images full of “beauty,” always emphasising that they are captured in their natural habitat. In addition to the beauty and art that these animals disperse, photographing them also serves a scientific purpose, contributing to “the collection of important data on migrations, population trends, and ecosystem changes, being crucial for the conservation of many endangered species,” notes Bartolomé Filella.
Birdwatching is the perfect occasion to discover and delve into the world of ornithology and the great images that these animals offer us. Photographs that highlight the exemplary nature of the birds and the author. Jordi Bartolomé Filella’s eye captures these animals in an excellent way and portrays the essence of each bird, along with its diversity in colours, textures, and shapes.
