A video explains the mentoring experience of UAB students with mentored girls

The UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) has produced a video about the project "peermentoring" between UAB students and mentored girls. This mentoring experience has given learning and empowering knowledge to the 30 students that have participated.
The mentoring experience project was proposed by the university group called Recerca en Infància i Adolescència en Risc Social (IARS) and has been carried out with mentored girls between 16 and 18 years old who live at the Centre Residencial d'Acció Educativa, CRAE, and also with UAB students. The project follows a specific learning methodology that allows working subjects like self-esteem, emotional stability and increase the social network.
 
Volunteerism in a mentoring project allows both participants to learn from friendship. According to the responsible of this project, Fina Sala, the peermentoring is really useful professionally because "it gives a bonus to educators who will work as mentors in the future". Peermentoring is also an opportunity for young students to meet girls they will attend as educators in a near future and it’s also a way to clarify possible doubts and wonders for mentored girls.
 
The UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS) has produced a video summarizing the project by IARS and SUARA with Fundació Jaume Bofill’s participationthrough the Centre Promotor Aprenentatge Servei. This centre is a space to create initiative and actions looking forward to find and support APS projects that follow the "Learning and Service" methodology and works as a data base of related projects.
 
Additionally, the UAB Solidarity Foundation (FAS), as an entity with experience in APS projects has also participated in UAB's student training in order to prepare the mentors to face and understand their mentored girl partner better. Last academic year, there were 4 seminaries to confront different subjects, some of them were an assertiveness workshop, a role playing session and they worked on equal relationships.
 
The video gathers up the different opinions of the participants and shows how the experience of participating in the peermentoring has been really rewarding for all of them. Girls who have participated emphasise that this projected has ended up with very good friendships.
