The autumn edition of La Comunitària celebrates the vitality of Catalan culture at the UAB
UAB students and employees participated today in the autumn edition of La Comunitària, which filled the Plaça del Coneixement with stalls run by various groups, as well as recreational activities. Student Ana López, who delivered the opening address, spoke about her involvement in groups that embody the university community’s commitment to Catalan culture—the focus of the UAB for the 2026/27 academic year.
Anna López, a student in the double degree programme in Physics and Chemistry as well as the degree programme in Mathematics, is a member of the UAB Alpine Club and "Els Escuradents"—the campus bastoners (traditional stick-dance) group—and was also involved with the castellers (human tower-building) group, Ganàpies. In her opening address, she described the origins and consolidation of "Els Escuradents"—a process in which she herself took part—as a success story: "Watching the bastoners group grow has been one of my best experiences". She noted that being part of UAB student groups "makes everything better" during one's university experience, and she encouraged the entire student body to get involved: "You only have one life, and balancing it all is possible".
Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB, congratulated the students of the University for their great initiative, reflected in the number and diversity of active groups on campus, and for the celebration of a unique event such as La Comunitària, highlighting that "no other university has anything like it". Rector Lafuente and Vice-Rector for Students and Employability Annabel Galan showed their appreciation for all those involved in organising La Comunitària and, in particular, for the work carried out by the Office for Community Engagement and the Student Participation Unit.
La Comunitària is the UAB’s welcome fair—an event to celebrate the start of the academic year and explore university life beyond the classroom. It brings together student groups, associations, and student councils, allowing them to showcase their work, projects, and the various ways to get involved in university life. The fair is aimed at the entire university community, with a special focus on first-year and international students.
