The UAB's Farmers' Market is back
The UAB Farmers' Market will once again take place at the Plaça Cívica after the summer break. Each Wednesday, the market will offer organic and locally sourced products from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition, awareness-raising activities will be organised on topics such as fair trade and responsible consumption. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between UAB, the Xarxa de Consum Solidari, and the Institut Metròpoli.
Starting this Wednesday 7 October, the Farmers' Market will once again return to the Plaça Cívica. This initiative comes from the Xarxa de Consum Solidari, which already organises similar markets in various locations across Barcelona and other municipalities. The UAB was the first Catalan university to host this initiative—launched in February 2026—with the aim of reaching students, researchers, and both academic and administrative staff.
The UAB Farmers' Market features around ten stalls offering vegetables and fruit, cured meats, cheeses and dairy products, bread, olives and honey. All the stalls are run by local producers and artisans, creating a direct-sales space.
This Wednesday, to celebrate the return and the start of the new academic year, a special programme has been organised which will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the UAB Cinema Hall with the screening of the documentary Yachay Terra, by David Alesina Pugés, a film that explores the parallels between rural life in Ecuador and that of Catalan farmers. After the film, there will be a discussion with Luz María Andrade, president of the Central Committee of Women of Unorcac in Ecuador, UAB lecturer and researcher Josep Lluís Espluga, and the documentary's director, Adrià Gratacós. Later, at 1:30 p.m., the celebration will continue outdoors with an agroecological paella made with fresh, locally sourced produce from the market.
