Once again the UAB organises a series of activities (conferences, sports activities, debates) in commemoration of International Women's Day, celebrated on 8 March, with the aim of strengthening the University's commitment to gender equality. The main institutional event, organised by the Equality and Diversity Service, will be held on 9 March at 12 noon at the conference hall of the Rectorat building.

The institutional day (attendance requires prior registration via the designated form) will begin with a speech by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente Sancho, and will continue with a presentation by Secretary General Esther Zapater of the UAB's main lines of work and gender equality policies.

This year, the central moment of the event will be the recognition of the career and contributions of lecturer Maria Prats Ferret, former director of the Observatory for Equality (now the Equality and Diversity Service) and member of the Geography and Gender Research Group (UAB), for sustained work aimed at consolidating the feminist perspective in geography and promoting gender transversality within the discipline, with a significant impact on both research and teaching. The day will conclude with a performance by the UAB Chamber Choir.

This initiative is part of the UAB's Gender Equality Action Plan and fulfils the measure focused on the organisation of an institutional event on the occasion of International Women's Day. Already incorporated into the first Action Plan (2006), this line of action represented a turning point by institutionalising the commemoration of 8 March at the UAB for the first time.

In the early editions, a substantial part of the day was devoted to presenting data on the situation of women at the university. Now, the initiative preserves this spirit of diagnosis and visibility and, at the same time, renews it with a broader, shared perspective: an invitation to recognition, but also to continue learning, questioning and transforming, day by day, what often remains invisible. In this sense, the event also serves as a platform and a catalyst for the awareness-raising activities that the UAB carries out throughout the academic year.
