The UAB inaugurates Innovation Week with the aim of becoming a "driving force for change"
Today, at the inauguration of this year's edition of Innovation Week, UAB Rector Javier Lafuente pointed out that the UAB aims to be a "driving force for change" that can connect "the world of innovation with society in a bi-directional manner". The institutional inauguration gave way to the innovation fair, taking place at the Hotel Exe Campus, with the participation of over four hundred business representatives and campus research groups and spin-offs.

Rector Lafuente showed his appreciation for the "great task" conducted by the UAB Parc de Recerca (PRUAB) in organising Innovation Week, as well as the involvement of other entities in the event which this year reaches its fourth edition. The rector highlighted the great potential of the UAB as a driving force for innovation given that it is a "campus university" in which students from all disciplines meet. This thus leads to the academic training of "people with the ability to communicate themselves with other in very different ways". He also encouraged institutions and businesses at the event to continue to work jointly because "together we can advance farther".
The inauguration also included an institutional intervention by Jaume Baró, Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia, who expressed his happiness at being at the UAB, since it is the university where he graduated in economic studies. Baró referred to the objectives of the National Pact for Industry 2026-2030 and stated that universities play a key role in the field of innovation, which is "the only way to solve society's challenges". Pepi Rivera, first deputy mayor of the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, also referred to the objective of "connecting talent and social innovation with the progress and well-being of citizens". Rivera emphasised that Cerdanyola del Vallès "is a city of knowledge" that has "a fundamental ally, the UAB". For the deputy mayor, Innovation Week contributes to "consolidating the local innovation ecosystem".
Innovation Week will be taking place from 21 to 24 October. This initiative prepared by the PRUAB aims to bring research, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship closer to the business sector and society. Through a series of activities open to different kinds of people - innovation fair, seminar on art and IA, women entrepreneurs, etc. - the knowledge generated on campus will be shared with a more general public.
