The UAB Exe Campus will host the Second Media Literacy and Global Understanding Conference  (MILID & Global Understanding) on 28 and 29 April. The event will bring together over 100 international experts and representatives of 50 institutions to design a Common Action Plan that promotes media literacy, critical thinking and intercultural dialogue.

Organised by the UAB and the Arab Academy, through the MIL Institute and the Communication and Education Bureau, this conference is offered under the framework of the UNESCO MILID cooperation programme and includes the support of the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE).

The opening ceremony, to be held on 28 April, will be attended by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente; UNESCO Deputy Assistant Director Tawfik Jelassi; the head of UNESCO's Media Literacy and Digital Skills Unit, Adelin Hulin; INCIBE Director General Félix Barrios; and the president of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Farag, and many others. The ceremony will be conducted by Samy Tayie, from the Arab Academy, and Santiago Tejedor, professor of the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies at the UAB.

For two days, the conference will offer plenary sessions, interactive workshops and discussion spaces focused on strengthening democratic values, human rights and intercultural cooperation through the responsible use of media and artificial intelligence. Key topics will include the development of public policies on media literacy, the quality of journalism, digital ethics, education in digital environments and strategies to combat disinformation and hate speech.

In addition, the conference forms part of the UNITWIN cooperation programme in MILID promoted by the UNESCO and aims to consolidate a global platform for collaboration between activists, researchers and institutions committed to media literacy.

In this context, Barcelona becomes the centre of an international reflection that seeks to promote peace, social cohesion and agreements between cultures and religions at a particularly critical time for global coexistence.
