Event details

As part as the last phase of the European project WIRE (Women in Resistance), coordinated by the UAB, some 50 students from different European cities (12 from the UAB) will meet in Barcelona with victims of Franco's dictatorship. The meeting will be a chance to learn first-hand about the experiences of members of the Catalan Association of Former Political Prisoners Under Franco's Dictatorship.

After the meeting, a guided visit to emblematic places of the Spanish Civil War will take place. The visit will cover facts related to the anarchist movement, the International Brigades and bombardments. It will also cover the day-to-day reality of women and children living in Barcelona at that time in emblematic areas of the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla.

Wire, Women in Resistance was created with the aim of places the role of women, agents and victims, at the centre of today's historical narratives on resistance in Europe. The project, funded by the European Union, includes the leadership of the Department of Modern and Early Modern History of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Democratic Memorial and other universities and entities from Poland, Italy and Greece.
