The UAB top 5th university in veterinary sciences worldwide according to Shanghai Ranking
According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), better known as the Shanghai Ranking, the UAB is the fifth top university in the world in Veterinary Sciences and comes in 34th position in Geography.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, places the UAB in fifth position worldwide in the field of Veterinary Sciences, thus consolidating the position it acquired in the previous edition. The only universities ranking higher are Ghent University (Belgium), Nanjing Agricultural University (China), University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (Germany) and Yangzhou University (China).
The UAB also occupies 34th place in Geogrpahy and ranks amongst the top 100 universities in Agricultural Sciences, Ecology, Biotechnology, and Economics.
The UAB also stands out among the top 200 universities in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Technology, Materials Science & Engineering, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Energy Science & Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Biomedicine, Nursing, Medical Technology, Pharmacology, Political Sciences, Sociology, Public Administration, and Hospitality & Tourism Management.
In general, the UAB ranks among the top 301 to 400 universities.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was first published in June 2003. The ARWU considers six objective indicators to rank universities: the number of students and professors awarded a Nobel Prize or the Fields Medal, the number of high-impact scientific articles selected by Thomson Reuters, the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and the relative performance of each university.
