The UAB signs the Declaration of Salamanca
Over 600 rectors and academic representatives from around Spain and Latin America will be participating in Universia's Fourth International Meeting of Rectors under the title of "University, Society and Future". They signed the Declaration of Salamanca during the meeting in which Rector Arboix also participated.
The meeting, which coincided with the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the University of Salamanca and reunited more than 600 rectors and academic representatives from 26 different countries, ended with the signing of the "Declaration of Salamanca". The document details all main conclusions and proposals for the construction of the university of the future and its mission as a driving force for social progress and development.
The declaration concludes that "the irreplaceable tasks of universities are and will continue to be the development of critical, ethical and competent citizens; the creation, transmission and transfer of knowledge with which to overcome challenges; and the defence of the role of education as a decisive tool in helping people and regions understand each other".
This year's meeting represented a continuation of the previous events held by Universia in Seville (2005), Guadalajara, Mexico (2010), and Rio de Janeiro (2014). The Universia platform includes over 1,300 academic institutions from all over Ibero-America.
