The Times Higher Education (THE) has published the first edition of its new Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR), in collaboration with the philanthropic initiative Schmidt Science Fellows. The ranking places UAB in 36th position in the list of the top universities in the world, sixth in Europe and second in Spain. To compile the ranking, THE classified 749 universities from 92 countries.

The ranking analyses three blocks concerning endowment, procedure and results, each with different indicators. These indicators are based on disciplines in the field of science and evaluate, always in terms of interdisciplinary research, the dedicated budget, private funding, research success, specific physical facilities, administrative support, job promotion, number of publications, percentage of interdisciplinary research publications in science, percentage of citations from articles in other disciplines, quality of research and the institution's reputation for supporting interdisciplinary research teams.
